Roger Roberson designed Letter Gothic™ Bold Italic for IBM between 1956 and 1962 for use with the company's popular Selectric typewriters. Inspired by Optima, Roberson's original Letter Gothic Bold Italic had slightly flared letterforms. The typeface was refined to a cleaner, more angular style that still contains some surprising design traits. Typewriter faces, particularly those of the monospaced variety, have experienced a resurgence in popularity, and are employed by many designers seeking a minimalist, very regular feel. Letter Gothic Bold Italic is also a natural for projects where fixed-width text is required, such as in tabular material and scientific documentation. Character Set: Latin-1
